Re: [Harp-L] feedback
After reading FJM's post I checked to see wether the pot was doing more than
reducing feedback and FJM seems to be right. The tone was changed by the
pot. In my case, the tone got better when I turned down the volume pot (more
colored and fatter, sounded a bit like a Marshall amp which is unusual for
this amp) but that is perhaps dumb luck.
I guess it makes sense, as the mic pot alters the sound chain, in this case
the pre-amp gets less signal, so pre-amps output is changed and since
nothing is linear in amplifiers then the output is affected in an
unpredictable way. This is a shitty state of affairs since it kind of means
you have to keep trying things until your happy. Unfortunately components
like mics, tubes and amps are expensive. Also it is not obvious that
changing tubes will be better than using the pot.
Will play around some more tomorow, will try Richards approach using my
son's KORG multi-effect unit. My main concern there is that it will sound
"digital". Will also try his Tube Screamer pedal, normally (previous to
today) the tube screamer to the clean channel of the amp gave me the best
sound (fat and warm). Will report back for those who are interested.
Thanks to all who posted,
Pierre.

Subject: [Harp-L] feedback
I just use the volume knob on the amp as my anti feedback device - if I
encounter feedback I just tap the VC "counter clockwise" a tad bit and
SURPRIZE, no mo feedback, works like a charm!!
